Abstract: The binary DI Her has attracted attention because its low observed rate of apsidal advance, dw/dt = 1.0° ± 0.3°/100yr, appears to contradict general relativity, which see...

متن کاملAn Experimental Study of Voting with Costly Delay∗
A conclave is a voting mechanism in which a committee selects an alternative by voting until a su cient supermajority is reached. We study experimentally welfare properties of simple three-voter conclaves with privately known preferences over two outcomes and waiting costs. The resulting game is a form of multiplayer war of attrition. Our key nding is that, consistent with theoretical predictio...
متن کاملVariable Delay Testing Using ONE NASA / TM — 2002 - 211802
This paper investigates the effect of long and changing propagation delays on the performance of TCP file transfers. Tests are performed with machines that emulate communication from a low/medium-earth satellite to Earth by way of a geosynchronous satellite. As a result of these tests, we find that TCP is fairly robust to varying delays given a high enough TCP timer granularity. However, perfor...
متن کاملEmergent Relativity: Neutrinos as Probe of the Underlying Theory
Neutrinos allow for a test of the hypothesis that the fermions of the Standard Model have Fermi-point splitting, analogous to the fermionic quasi-particles of certain condensedmatter systems. If present, the corresponding Lorentz-violating terms in the Hamiltonian may provide a new source of T and CP violation in the leptonic sector, which is not directly related to mass.
